Despite a chill in the air, artists of all ages and abilities gathered Jan. 21 at the Morton Grove Public Library to create Valentine’s Day cards.
“I believe our youngest card maker was about 2 and our oldest was easily 80,” said Brenda Glenn, Youth Services librarian.
Patrons had four different projects from which to choose.
“They could create a card from a die-cut, which then involved paper-weaving,” Glenn said. “They could make a card using paper-piecing and rubber-stamping techniques.”
The third was made on the computer using ready-made Valentine’s Day-themed artwork, borders and backgrounds.
“The final card was a coloring project that was originally targeted at kids, but proved quite popular with everyone,” Glenn said.
Library assistant Melissa Mayberry coordinated the program.
A heating problem didn’t dishearten the artists, Glenn said.
“The heat in the Baxter Room, where the event was held, was out overnight,” Glenn said. “It was cold, but I don’t think anyone was scared away by the chill. Hot coffee and cocoa helped.”
