Park Ridge man killed in apparent hit-and-run

DES PLAINES — Authorities are investigating an apparent hit-and-run Monday night that left a Park Ridge man dead alongside a road in a wooded area near Des Plaines.

Ronald Bougan, 52, was found along Touhy Avenue east of the Tri-State Tollway, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Bougan, of the first block of North Northwest Highway in Park Ridge, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

That portion of Touhy Avenue runs though the Iroquois Woods.

Cook County sheriff’s police were called to the area about 6 p.m. and found that his injuries were consistent with those of being hit by a car, spokesman Frank Bilecki said.

A bicyclist, who first thought it was a dead deer, saw the body 3 to 5 feet from the road and called police after realizing the body was human, Bilecki said.

Authorities couldn’t immediately say why he was walking in that area, but family members told police he walked or biked almost everywhere he went, said Bilecki.

Tracks from a vehicle were found in the area, but police have yet to learn if they were fresh or not, Bilecki said. Police had no description of the vehicle involved as of Monday night.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
