Growing MBX Systems moves to Libertyville

LIBERTYVILLE — After seven moves in 17 years, Thomas Crowley and MBX Systems may have found their permanent home — at least for awhile.
The moves were necessitated by continual expansion and growth,or bad space planning, Crowley said with a smile.
Just last month, Crowley, the chief executive officer of the manufacturer of systems and server appliances for software vendors and service providers, and MBX moved from a 19,000-square-foot facility in Wauconda to the 84,000-square-foot former home of Motorola’s mobile telephone accessories operations, located at Technology Way and Winchester Road in Libertyville. Quite a jump for a company that started in a converted Island Lake garage.
Crowley said the moves, as well as the five company logos thus far, are a testament to the firm’s evolution.
“It says who we are, that we make changes,” Crowley said. “We see what is required and adapt. We are not going to just stick with one certain approach.”
While Crowley sees the business staying put for awhile, he said sales people are already eyeing another property — the entire Motorola campus,
MBX Systems designs, configures, delivers and supports original equipment manufacturer hardware for software companies.
Jill Bellack, president and chief operations officer, said customers stick with MBX.
“We have a 97 percent to 98 percent retention rate with existing clients,” Bellack said. “And we are growing, so we keep adding clients.”
She noted that despite the sluggish economy, the business has seen 60 percent growth.
Justin Formella, chief information officer, said MBX employs 109 and expects to be at more than 130 employees by the end of the year.
Kim Becker, talent manager, said MBX continues to be a great place to work because everyone buys into producing a quality product and taking care of customers.
“If things ever get heated here between two employees, it is because they differ on how best to take care of a client,” Bellack said.
