CLARENDON HILLS — Some Clarendon Hills Middle School students have mixed feelings about their upcoming winter break.
Students will be off from school Dec. 22 to Jan. 7, but two weeks away from the classroom doesn’t necessarily mean there’s no required work to do over the holidays.
“We have projects we have to do over break,” said eighth-grader Brooke Secola. “It bugs me that we have to do it because I feel like winter break is to hang out with family.”
Principal Griffin Sonntag said there typically isn’t much homework over winter break for students.
“We encourage reading, for sure, but also family time,” he said.
Sonntag’s words didn’t seem to ease the pain for eighth-graders who will be working on projects during winter break.
“It hangs over you over the whole break,” said eighth-grader Erin Otto. “It’s hard to work on stuff over break, but we have to get it done.”
Eighth-grader Colton Giammanco plans to work on his science project over break, despite the fact that he’ll be out of town for about 1 ½ weeks.
“If someone is going away, you still have to get your work done,” he said. “You just have to use whatever free time you have. I’ll do some work on the plane when I go away.”
