PARK RIDGE — An 8-year-old boy was found safe after he was missing for about an hour Tuesday afternoon at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Hospital spokesman Greg Alford said the boy, who had a doctor’s appointment, wandered away from a family member and hid within the hospital. The hospital was locked down and security and local police were called to assist in the search for the boy.

The child was found about an hour later “not far from the doctor’s office” he was to have been visiting, Alford said.

“He was found and everybody’s safe. Everything’s back to normal,” Alford said at about 5 p.m.

Park Ridge Police conducted an outside search of the hospital campus for the child, receiving assistance from the Niles Police Department, said Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen. Area establishments were also visited by police and some officers also assisted hospital security and staff as they conducted a search of the interior of the hospital.

Alford said it was believed the child did not want to go to his doctor’s visit and that was the reason why we went into hiding.
