Lake Forest nanny steals employer’s jewelry

LAKE FOREST — A 52-year-old North Chicago woman was charged with Class 4 felony theft for stealing at least 24 pieces of jewelry valued at $20,000 from a Lake Forest home where she worked as a nanny.
Carol Jacobs, 1415 Grove Ave., was cooperative with officers and admitted to stealing the jewelry over several weeks and pawning the pieces at several shops in Lake County.
Lake Forest police said Jacobs has worked for other families in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff. Police said pawn records show Jacobs has been selling jewelry at local pawn shops since at least 2006.
“There have been two Lake Forest families involved so far and I have had four or five different calls from people who have employed her at different times,” Lake Forest Police Detective Mark Senger said.
“We don’t have any additional charges against her at this time,” Senger added.
Police were first alerted to the thefts by a family in the 400 block of East Woodland Avenue when the residents discovered missing jewelry. Jacobs was arrested on Dec. 19 and released on $10,000 bond. She faces a Jan. 17 court date.
