GLENVIEW — A Glenview man with prior convictions for intoxicated driving is facing more charges following two separate crashes that left a Wilmette resident seriously injured.
Jerzy Orczyk, 60, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the Jan. 6 accidents in unincorporated Glenview.
Cook County Sheriff’s Police said Orczyk was driving south on Greenwood Road just after 3 p.m. when he ran a red light at Central Road, striking a 2012 Honda Accord that was driving east on Central.
After allegedly striking the Accord, Orczyk then reportedly continued south on Greenwood in the northbound lanes, crashing into a 2005 Subaru Outback driven by a 66-year-old man from Niles.
Police said Orczyk continued driving the wrong way on Greenwood before hitting a street sign and driving into a ditch near Greenbriar Drive.
The driver of the Accord, a 56-year-old Wilmette man, sustained serious injuries in the accident and was treated at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said. The Subaru’s driver declined medical assistance, according to police.
Orczyk has two prior DUI convictions in Cook County from 2000 and 2006, Sheriff’s Police said.
Bond for Orczyk was set at $35,000.
