A drink with brunch in Western Springs?

WESTERN SPRINGS — The village is considering an amendment to its Liquor Control Ordinance that would allow liquor license holders offering brunch to be able to serve alcohol as of 10 a.m. Currently, no liquor license holders can serve alcohol before 11 a.m. weekdays and Saturdays and before noon Sundays.
Village Board members discussed the proposed change Monday. No vote was taken, but no trustees voiced opposition to the proposal, which will be voted on at the board’s next meeting, 7 p.m. on Jan. 28 at Village Hall, 740 Hillgrove Ave.
The issue was raised when representatives of Davanti Enoteca, an Italian eatery which will be opening at 800 W. Hillgrove Ave., asked about serving alcohol with brunch. The village’s Liquor Commission began looking at the licenses.
“The question came up about an individual having a drink at a funeral lunch or brunch on the weekend,” said Trustee Deborah Lyons.
Trustees Monday also discussed granting Class B (full-service restaurant) and Class H (outdoor cafe) liquor licenses for Davanti Enoteca. No vote was taken at the workshop meeting, but no trustees expressed any issue with granting the licenses, which simply replace the licenses that were in existence for the former restaurant at the site, 800 West. The 800 West restaurant was at the site less than two years before closing.
