Fire hits Lake Zurich restaurant

LAKE ZURICH — A small fire brought firefighters to a Lake Zurich restaurant Monday night, only to find that the building’s sprinkler system had done their job for them by the time they arrived.
On Monday evening, Jan. 14, the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded to an automatic fire alarm activation at the Kobe East restaurant at 769 W. Highway 22. But upon arriving at the scene, the department found that the fire had been extinguished by the activation of a single sprinkler head.
When they examined the scene, a burnt and melted electrical strip was found, according to a Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department press release.
“It goes to illustrate the importance of sprinklers,” Assistant Fire Marshal Guy Trayling said. “It actually extinguished the fire.”
Due to light smoke that was still in the building, crews set to work on salvage, water clean up, fire investigation and sprinkler system restoration.
“Our crews were just making sure everything was cleaned up and ready for business,” said Trayling.
The fire had been contained to the office of the restaurant, where it had originated, according to the press release. No further fire suppression was required.
After getting the green light from the health department the next day, Tuesday, Kobe East reopened for business.~.
