BARRINGTON — Barrington High School officials are discussing disciplinary action against a student who reportedly released pepper spray while school was letting out Wednesday afternoon.
Jeff Arnett, chief communications officer for District 220, said the pepper spray incident is believed to be accidental, but added that punishment will be handed down because the substance is not allowed on school grounds.
Arnett reported that the incident occurred in the school’s East Wing. Some students were affected by the spray, most notably coughing, but were all OK after exiting the building, Arnett said.
“No one needed to be treated by the school nurse or transported to the hospital,” Arnett said.
