Man stabbed on Church Street in Skokie

A man was stabbed Jan. 20 during a robbery in the 4800 block of Church Street that police believe may have been connected to a drug deal.
The victim told police he was stabbed six inches below his neck, but his injury wasn’t life-threatening.
The incident was first reported in the village’s new online Skokie Public Safety Bulletin at www.skokie.org before the crime report was made available to the press.
Police said they initially were told that two friends decided to go to 7-Eleven for a snack after watching a football game. After leaving the store, they were told, the victims were approached by two men who asked them for cigarettes.
Police were told that the victim handed over two cigarettes, one for each of the suspects, when one of the suspects grabbed his iPhone. The victim’s friend, police were told, lunged at the suspect when the other suspect stabbed him in the back using a short, sharp object believed to possibly be a pocket knife.
The incident occurred in front of the Skokie Park District’s Weber Center, police said. The two suspects then took off in opposite directions on Church Street, according to information given to police.
The suspect who allegedly committed the stabbing was described as a black man, 25 to 27 years of age, about 6 feet tall and weighing roughly 220 pounds. He was wearing all black and short twisted braids, according to the description.
The suspect who allegedly took the iPhone was described as a male Hispanic 23 to 27 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing roughly 200 pounds. He was wearing all black, a black trench coat-style jacket, short “faded” hair and a “stud” piercing in his left cheek, according to the description.
Police said there were inconsistencies in the story they were told. Upon checking with 7-Eleven, police said, they learned the victims had not been inside the store. While police believe the fight could have been part of a drug deal, the case is still under investigation.
