Mommy on a Shoestring writer Beth Engelman is a Glenview resident, single mother, and lifelong reader of Pioneer Press who grew up in Highland Park. Prior to becoming a freelance writer, Engelman was a Kindergarten teacher.

She has written children's books for Piggy Toes Press and Chronicle Books and has designed toys for LeapFrog.
