WESTERN SPRINGS — Students from Laidlaw School participated Oct. 18 in the annual Fun Run to raise money for programs at the Elementary District 101 school.

Students were asked to get pledges for the last month to support them on race day, and throughout the morning each class went outside to try and complete 3,000 steps while wearing their own pedometers and race numbers.

The kids were able to run , walk, skip or hop around a track set up behind the schoo to different music. The event was run by GetMovingCrew. Forest Hills School students participated in a similar event that afternoon.

All the money raised by the PTO through this event goes back into the school. It helps cover costs of field trips, assemblies, art appreciation, an art fair, school olympics, teacher appreciation grants and gardens. Additionally, funding is used to help fill staff wish lists, giving $200 to teachers to use for classroom needs.

Last year, the PTO was also able to buy 10 iPads for the school with money raised.
